Signal is an encrypted communications application for Android and iOS. It uses the Internet to send one-to-one and group messages, which can include files, voice notes, images and videos, and make one-to-one voice and video calls. Signal uses standard cellular mobile numbers as identifiers, and uses end-to-end encryption to secure all communications to other Signal users.

@Clockrelativity @mer__edith @signalapp The metadata searches are terrifying. You can imagine a government trying to identify a whistle blower by telling Meta, "tell me everyone who's sent this journalist a message in the last N months."

@Clockrelativity @mer__edith @signalapp WhatsApp collects large amounts of metadata, like who you talk to, what groups you're in, your address book, etc. Signal does not collect this information. Signal is run by a non-profit, so they have no incentives to violate privacy for profit.

@ThePrivacyPagan @signalapp Nothing in that screenshot is false. The Signal Foundation doesn’t have your messages because they’re encrypted. Other messengers also use the Signal Protocol but also add an ability to forward a message to a moderator or create unencrypted backups, or they otherwise leak data.

@ThePrivacyPagan @signalapp e2ee is necessary but not sufficient for privacy. I’m no longer willing to debate semantics with you. Please stop fearmongering about Signal. It’s just going to drive people to less secure less private alternatives.

@ThePrivacyPagan @signalapp This is fear mongering, and it’s actively harmful. Please stop.

@augicscz @naomibrockwell @JJz_112 @signalapp Signal's encryption has been reviewed many times and has been found to be secure. Signal actually collects vastly less metadata than Telegram.

@JulioMedina @dickclucas @signalapp @krmaher @mer__edith @realchrisrufo @telegram Very little in Telegram is e2ee. If you're concerned about privacy, it's not a good choice. Group chats can't be encrypted. 1:1 chats aren't by default. Metadata aren't protected.

@JMichaelWaller @signalapp @realchrisrufo Why can't you trust it? Nothing has changed. The code is still open. It's not collecting more data. This is just culture war FUD from Rufo. He hasn't provided any evidence to back up his claims.

@VolumeRick @signalapp @krmaher Claiming that Signal is spyware is an outrageous allegation especially given that they've bent over backwards to protect privacy. They have virtually no data on their users, and they can prove it. This culture war FUD will only drive people to less secure messengers.

@zaldorian93 @mer__edith @signalapp Signal does not have the content of your messages. How would they turn you in?
