It was officially registered in 1997 by Michael Rodriguez.

Huh. On the same day I got email from a provider saying that their .io address may go away (bc the UK gave up the Chagos Islands & the British Indian Ocean territory represented by .io ceases to exist) I get email from Dreamhost offering a "free .IO domain for 1 year!"

@pjmartorell @photomatt @dhh How much do they pay for the commercial license? Where is the documentation regarding their agreement? Dreamhost has nothing on their site that I could find that states this and prevents "confusion".
