Every time I use the app it gets the ID wrong. I have better luck asking Google.
Newest update hides results unless you provide a location, even on old recordings, when it worked perfectly fine before. They claim that this new update makes it more "private and user friendly" when in fact it does exactly the opposite, especially when you need to be online to set a location. Upon doing so, it still failed to recognize birds, which is strange since it worked fully offline before without location. This app was great on initial install, but every update since has made it worse.
Honestly, every update for over a year now just makes this app more & more unusable. No audio when I I try to listen to bird song. Bad enough that I cannot update the bird packs.
this is a joke of an app tested it on 7 birds I know to test it. got all of them wrong both by photo or song. I doubt this thing could ID itself.
Doesn't work any more, disappointing. When I first got this a few months back it was hearing, finding and naming birds almost as quick as I could. Now it says it's hearing a bird but never identifies any unless it's a pigeon right next to me. I have no idea what's happened.
Terrible, can't even identify a simple sparrow but an iPhone inbuilt feature can. Plus it doesn't give you reference images of possible birds, only the name so you have to go search google images of each name to know if it's remotely close or not. Plus the detection is so bad a black colored bird will prompt the suggestion to give an image of a completely WHITE bird and say they're probably the same.
they know what they did in this last update... and that's why one star
I have been using this app before also. But earlier this app worked very well. Now when I use it and download a pack, once the download is complete, the install button comes back. Please update this app and I also used its Bird Photo id option but it could not recognize the photo of the bird.
App shows a limited number of birds for only a very specific location. Many birds are not even shown. The app can't identify a bird when one takes a picture of an unknown bird. Worse yet, it is inaccurate when trying to identify a bird by sound. App seemed like a great idea but fails badly. You can't even listen to bird sounds since the most recent update. Definitely not user-friendly and rates a failing grade.
Absolutely does NOT require a location to function. It even tells you it is hearing birds. It uses a downloaded database regardless. They will not show you birds unless you give them your location. Devs belong in China.
