A rave is a dance party held in a warehouse, club, or other public or private venue, typically featuring DJs playing electronic dance music. This style of party became prominent in the early 1990s, associated with the dance music scene where DJs performed at illegal events, showcasing a wide range of electronic dance music sub-genres, including drum and bass, dubstep, trap, breakbeat, happy hardcore, trance, techno, hardcore, house, and alternative dance. Occasionally, live musicians and performance artists, such as go-go dancers and fire dancers, also perform at raves. The music is amplified with a powerful sound system, often featuring large subwoofers for deep bass sounds. Raves are typically accompanied by laser light shows, projected colored images, visual effects, and fog machines.
