Westpac Banking Corporation, commonly known as Westpac, is an Australian multinational banking and financial services company headquartered at Westpac Place in Sydney. Established in 1817 as the Bank of New South Wales, it acquired the Commercial Bank of Australia in 1981 and was renamed Westpac Banking Corporation in 1982. Westpac is one of Australia's Big Four banks and is the country's first and oldest banking institution. Its name is a portmanteau of "Western" and "Pacific."

@Bankwest every time I go on holidays , Bankwest blocks cards. I do notify of overseas travel. Do not use this bank if you go overseas. Never had this problem with Westpac!

@simonahac @LiberalAus @The_Nationals @LiberalNSW I remember back in the 1980s how all the executives at Bank of New South Wales, now Westpac were actually Queenslanders. As a young innocent lad, I asked one and he answered that it’s much easier to become a big fish when you come from a small pond.
